Restore Net::Domain that was
accidentally removed
On AIX, explicitly list symbol exports when
creating a shared library. The previous use of -bexpall
did not export symbols with a leading underscore, a problem for the
Glib and Gtk2 modules.
In addition to adding paths in
/opt/TWWfsw/perl586/etc/include.paths to the module
search path, files in
/opt/TWWfsw/perl586/etc/include.paths.d are parsed in a
similar manner.
The following changes have occurred with the Python
2.4.2 package:
Update openssl dependency from 0.9.7b to 0.9.8e
Upgraded the following modules:
Imaging from 1.1.5 to 1.1.6
In addition to adding paths in
/opt/TWWfsw/python242/etc/include.paths to the module
search path, files in
/opt/TWWfsw/python242/etc/include.paths.d are parsed in a
similar manner.
- TWW Thunderbird has been upgraded from the 1.5.0.x
release to the latest 2.0.0.x release. TWW Thunderbird 2.0 has the
following new features:
Advanced Folder Views: Thunderbird 2 offers a
variety of ways for you to organize and display your folders, whether
by favorites, recently viewed or folders containing unread messages.
As always, you can also set up RSS and newsgroup folders to stay on
top of news and your interests. Thunderbird 2 also allows you to
maximize your message view pane by opting for a folder drop down menu
instead of the traditional sidebar.
Message Tagging: Thunderbird 2 allows you to "tag"
messages with descriptors such as "To Do" or "Done" or even create
your own tags that are specific to your needs. Tags can be combined
with saved searches and mail views to make it easier to organize
email.
Message History Navigation: Thunderbird 2 offers
message history navigation that allows you to click "forward" and
"back" much like in your Web browser. You can now quickly toggle
between messages and folder views.
Improved Search: Thunderbird 2 features a find as
you type pane that speeds up searches within displayed messages.
Thunderbird also offers quick search, which starts showing search
results as soon as you start typing in search terms.
Saved Searches: Do you find yourself searching for
the same subject or message content over and over? Thunderbird 2 saves
you time by allowing you to store this search as a folder. Rerunning
the search is just a matter of clicking on the saved search folder in
the folder pane.
Stay Informed: Thunderbird 2 has been updated to
provide more informative and relevant message alerts containing
sender, subject and message text for newly arrived messages. Folders
provide a pop up summarizing new messages in that folder.
Secure and Protect Your Mail: Mozilla has bolstered
Thunderbird's acclaimed security and privacy measures to ensure that
your communications and identity remain safe. It's like having your
own security guard online.
Phishing Protection: Thunderbird protects you from
email scams which try to trick users into handing over personal and
confidential information by indicating when a message is a potential
phishing attempt. As a second line of defense, Thunderbird warns you
when you click on a link which appears to be taking you to a different
Web site than the one indicated by the URL in the message.
Robust Privacy: Thunderbird 2 offers improved
support for user privacy and remote image protection. To ensure a
user's privacy, Thunderbird 2 automatically blocks remote images in
email messages.
Cutting Out the Junk: Mozilla has updated
Thunderbird's popular junk mail folders to stay ahead of spam. Each
email you receive passes through Thunderbird's leading-edge junk mail
filters. Each time you mark messages as spam, Thunderbird "learns" and
improves its filtering so you can spend more time reading the mail
that matters. Thunderbird can also use your mail provider's spam
filters to keep junk mail out of your inbox.
Message Templates: Thunderbird 2 allows you to
easily set up message templates to save you time - especially if you
have to send the same mail message repeatedly.
Ruby and Tcl have been updated to search
/opt/TWWfsw/ruby185/etc/include.paths,
/opt/TWWfsw/ruby185/etc/include.paths.d and
/opt/TWWfsw/tcl84/etc/include.paths,
/opt/TWWfsw/tcl84/etc/include.paths.d respectively for
additional paths to add to the default module search path, in a
similar manner to the same paths under Perl and Python. Package
postinstall scripts now update the ".../include.paths.d"
directory and only update the ".../include.paths"
configuration file when the newer directory mechanism is not
available.
Because some core libraries such as
expat, fcpackage, freetype,
ncurses, readline, tiff,
zlib were upgraded to new major releases, all dependent
programs have been recompiled and/or updated. The 120 programs updated
in this release is partially due to this core library update.
curl has been updated to 7.16.4 from
7.15.1. Among the improvements is support for SFTP and SSH file
transfers. Support for this was done under contract with Daniel
Stenberg and Simon Josefsson, with the code being released back into
the curl and libssh2 projects.
This release is the first to be built with our new
chroot build system. All programs on all platforms are now built
within a chrooted environment. This makes it easy to snapshot a
release and allow simultaneous development for multiple releases.
Previously, updating a core library would require a rebuild of all
dependent libraries, hindering forward progress with newer releases of
core libraries because a security fix in a previous distribution
release would require a recompile with the dependencies in place when
the distribution was created. Because of this, libraries such as
tiff, and zlib were not updated to their
newer versions.
The update to GTK+ introduced a requirement on
cairo, a multi-platform 2D graphics library.
Unfortunately, it does not work with 8-bit X visuals. Therefore, all
GTK+ programs require an X server with more than 8-bit visuals.
The fonts package has been updated to the 1.1 release
and the IBM Courier and Ghostscript fonts have been added to this
package. The IBM Courier font works around a display issue with the
AIX system Courier font. In addition, the
"/usr/lib/X11/fonts/Type1" path is ignored when searching
for fonts by fontconfig, due to display errors with some of the fonts.
The Ghostscript fonts serve as a replacement for these fonts.
Fontconfig no longer reads per-directory font cache
files. Rather, a local directory is used to cache the system-wide
fonts (/var/opt/TWWfsw/fcpackage24/cache), in addition to a
per-user "~/.fontconfig" cache directory. The cache
entries are specific to the hardware architecture (i.e. "parisc",
"sparc", "x86-64", etc.). Unfortunately, the cache entries are not
specific to the operating system. Therefore, it is important that all
systems have access to the same fonts.
The GAIM IM client has been renamed to Pidgin.
Python 2.5.1 is new in this release and, while Python
2.4.2 is still available, Python 2.5.1 is the new production release.
This is the last release to ship Python 2.4.2.
Qt has been upgraded to the 3.3.8 release and, on
Solaris 7+, requires the installation of the OpenGL libraries.
This release is the last to support Tru64 UNIX 4.0D.

Perl 5.8.6 module search path
Perl has been updated to read a configuration file
containing a list of module search paths,
/opt/TWWfsw/perl586/etc/include.paths, and to read a
directory of configuration files,
/opt/TWWfsw/perl586/etc/include.paths.d, containing a
list of module search paths. The module search path is augmented by
prepending the paths to the default Perl search path. In taint mode,
usage of this file is disabled.
The default search path is:
$ /opt/TWWfsw/perl586/bin/perl -V
...
@INC:

Python 2.4.2 module search path
Python has been updated to read a configuration file
containing a list of module search paths,
/opt/TWWfsw/python242/etc/include.paths, and to read a
directory of configuration files,
/opt/TWWfsw/python242/etc/include.paths.d, containing a
list of module search paths. The module search path is augmented by
prepending the paths to the default Python search path.
The default search path is:
$ /opt/TWWfsw/python242/bin/python
>>> import sys
>>> for p in sys.path:
>>> print p
/opt/TWWfsw/python242/lib/python2.4
/opt/TWWfsw/python242/lib/python2.4/plat-sunos5
/opt/TWWfsw/python242/lib/python2.4/lib-tk
/opt/TWWfsw/python242/lib/python2.4/lib-dynload
/opt/TWWfsw/python242/lib/python2.4/site-packages
/opt/TWWfsw/python242p/lib/python2.4/site-packages
/opt/TWWfsw/python242p/lib/site-python
To prepend additional site-specific paths to this list,
update /opt/TWWfsw/python242/etc/include.paths.d with the
list of additional paths to search:

/opt/TWWfsw/python25/etc/include.paths.d, containing a
list of module search paths. The module search path is augmented by
prepending the paths to the default Python search path.
The default search path is:
$ /opt/TWWfsw/python25/bin/python

/opt/TWWfsw/python25p/lib/python2.5/site-packages
/opt/TWWfsw/python25p/lib/site-python
To prepend additional site-specific paths to this list,
update /opt/TWWfsw/python25/etc/include.paths.d with the
list of additional paths to search:
